Oil Cleansing Method for: Sensitive, Oily, Dry, Acne-prone skin & more

Why everyone should use the oil cleansing method

  • OCM is more gentle on your skin than other harsh cleansers
  • OCM is designed to remove debris and dirt from the pores as well as make-up
  • OCM is highly moisturizing to the skin given the rich fatty acids in the plant-based oils

The History:

Before modern soap was introduced on an industrial scale in the 19th century, people used water and oil to cleanse their bodies. Olive oil was generally used as the main oil. Back in the ancient world, people might have combined scented oils and ash, then used a stigil to scrub the oil off their bodies. The blade was gently curved to accommodate the curves of the body.

The Benefits:

The Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) is used to adjust our own oil production naturally. It's said that oil dissolves oil, so the OCM will help your skin to adjust it's own oil production to your needs. Cleansing with plant based oils will help to remove dirt and make up. It will help clean excess oil from your skin (don't worry if you have naturally oily skin) and assist with sensitive skin that is prone to inflammation.

Different skins types all benefit from the OCM. Oily skin will benefit as the natural sebum production will calm down over time and balance out properly. Dry skin benefits as the OCM will moisturize and again re-balance the natural oil production. Sensitive skin benefits from the gentle method of cleansing the skin by using a plant-based oil that has been infused with calendula as it has anti-inflammatory properties and will calm the skin.

The Method:

Wet your face with warm water. Apply 1-2 tablespoons of your oil cleaners in your hands. Massage your face in circular motions for at least 2-5 minutes. Wet a face cloth in very warm- hot water (careful not to use water that's too hot for your face) and place the warm-hot damp face cloth on your face for about a minute to help open your pores so that you can remove any excess dirt from your skin. Then use the other side of the face cloth to gently remove any remaining oil.

The Takeaway:

The oil cleansing method is generally more gentle at cleaning all skin types. It's also very effective at removing dirt/ debris and make-up from the skin.
