Essential Oils vs Synthetic Fragrance Oils

What are Essential Oils? Essential Oils are a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted. What are Synthetic Fragrance Oils? Synthetic Fragrance Oils are blended synthetic aroma compounds or natural essential oils that are diluted with a carrier like propylene glycol, vegetable oil, or mineral oil. Propylene glycol has been associated with irritant and allergic contact dermatitis as well as contact urticaria in humans; these sensitization effects can be manifested at propylene glycol concentrations as low as 2%.
